Horsley hills is in Andhra Pradesh, in Chittoor district approximately 275 km from Chennai if we go via Tirutani and Tirupati town. Tirupati is around midway between Chennai and Horsley Hills.
5 of us went from Chennai in September, we were 2 ninja1000s, one each of versys1000, street750 and gsa1200.'
We left Chennai at around 6.30am, so as to avoid too much of our ever present hot weather. We were having breakfast around 10am, having stopped enroute for a couple of coffee and bio breaks. Our late breakfast on our way at Tirupati was at #ChillisFoodParadise. Food was awesome, but a bit expensive. We reached our accommodation by around 2pm
There are not many options available to stay and we stayed at the APTDC accommodation in two double bed rooms which were air conditioned and comfortable. The elevation being just 1250 odd meters above sea level, the place was pleasant at around 25 degree C at night. But the day time was pretty hot.
The road is a "nothing to write home about" ordinary 2 way highway till Tirupati and beyond that was a smaller 2 way highway but riddled with speed breakers as we were going largely through a wild life sanctuary. The vegetation was scrub and trees such as eucalyptus and was largely dry.
There are not may places to see in Horsley hills, except a couple of viewpoints. Its a place where you can probably happily pass off one night and can stretch yourself to spend 2 at the most. Food in APTDC was not good. We had a late lunch and our breakfast the next day in APTDC. They have a system whereby they give you tokens which you exchange for your plate at the counter and proceed to have your food from a buffet.
For dinner we ordered from a small time hotel nearby where again the food was very ordinary and a lot oily. Once in your room you are to fend for yourself, so ensure your room has working fittings, your extra bed is ordered, sheets and towels are available. Else you will have to go back around half a km to contact the reception to get them. There is no room service. On boarding and check out at the reception were very smooth and was done in a jiffy.
APTDC has many types of accommodation from tents to non ac rooms to ac rooms and all are priced very reasonably. All details are available in their website. APTDC-HORSELYHILLS . There is ample parking for bikes (and cars), although it is not covered. We parked our bikes right outside our rooms.
Hence we decided to have our lunch on the return also at the same venue. The lunch for the five of us including a host of non vegetarian items and dessert to go with the biriyani cost us close to Rs.1000/- each, but was worth it. After spending more than an hour filling our bellies, we left the place around 2.30pm and reached Chennai around 5pm after stopping enroute for tea and tender coconut.
The place is not too far from Bangalore either and can be a nice place for a weekend break with friends. Its a place where we could spend a night if we were planning a trip to Tirupati or Tirutani or even Vellore, for that matter. However unless you are with the right company, spending your time might be a challenge. Altogether a good fun weekend.
Went with Balan, Madhan, Bipin and Senthil
This trip was way before we knew anything called covid19.
